The Satyr's Psychedelic Passage into Ecstasy

This piece explores the delicate balance between ecstasy and horror. For as long as I can remember, I've always wanted to experience altered states in order to approach the sublime. However, there is always the risk of paying the price and getting stuck in a bad trip. I've been fortunate, and overall, my psychedelic experiences have been positive. However, there are times when they can feel endless, especially when they extend for several days.

Punk artist disturbing the old masters with AI. Originally from Montréal, Québec, Canada, Von Doyle’s fascination with creation dates back a long time. A formal education in fine arts and film production at Concordia University was the catalyst for his foray into the creative world, a period during which he worked on experimental short films and works of fiction, exploring the realms of reality and imagination through the lens of the camera as his primary medium. In the years that followed, Von Doyle’s innate entrepreneurial spirit led him to start a production company, while at the same time exploring other mediums of personal artistic expression.

With the development of NFT technology, digital art soon became his go-to medium — a medium where he felt he could express himself without incurring exorbitant costs. Finding in the Tezos platform Hic Et Nunc a community and art that resonated with his ethos, in 2021 he minted his genesis piece, “AI La baigneuse”.

He’s fascinated by how scary and ugly computer’s dreams are so he decided to go back to a time where paintings were all about pure classic beauty and he’s trying to see them from the eyes of our times. He’s running paintings through a bunch of different algorithms to create a dream-like psychedelic appearance by over-processing the images to a point of madness and once he have enough versions he’s layering them in Photoshop to paint “mask” different parts of the layers until it’s perfect. All those different textures are becoming a selection of unique brushes and colors that he use to sublimate his fears and demons into his work.

Von Doyle is mostly working with neural networks, deep learning and deep dream codes in Python/PyTorch.
